HUSK LAMP
Growing up in a village surrounded by golden cornfields, I developed a deep appreciation for this plant. As a kid I loved running through the stalks, but as a designer, I became increasingly aware of the waste generated in corn farming. This led me to explore the potential of corn husks, typically discarded as refuse, and to envision them in a new way.
HUSK Lamp embodies this vision, crafted from just two materials: corn and steel. By exploring the potential of the husks I developed a new material made purely out of dried and compressed husks bonded with a biodegradable cornstarch-based hardener that I developed. The “husk paper” forms the lamp's sides, contrasted by a self-supporting stainless steel frame, reminiscent of the agricultural machinery.
By showcasing the beauty of corn husks, I wanted to invite the warmth of golden cornfields into living spaces and show how we can merge nature with modern design.
Ultimately, HUSK Lamp prioritizes sustainability, transforming pure waste into a new material and inviting viewers to see it in a new light.
